The work

Since March 2025, we’ve photographed Wea Township Fire Department through everything a small department does: confined-space and extrication drills, live smoke training, brush and mulch fires, apparatus and station life, and community events.

There are 186 photos in the department’s media library, and they’re used across weafire.com, in press releases, on social media and on the station’s TV screens.

The approach

Real crews doing real work, shot close and in available light. Smoke, hi-vis and scene lights do most of the work. The aim is photos that show residents what their department actually does, and that the crew are proud to see.

A firefighter sprays a hose line into thick white smoke rising from a mulch pile. A firefighter in an SCBA mask, a chest flashlight cutting through dense training smoke. A firefighter in turnout gear and a hi-vis vest holds a rolled hose above their head. The rear of Tanker 41 at night, its red and yellow chevrons lit by scene lights. A firefighter cuts into the side of a camper with a reciprocating saw during extrication training. Two firefighters stand on a smoking mulch pile, silhouetted against white smoke. Two firefighters cut a roof ventilation prop with a rotary saw. Two firefighters in full gear and air packs stand in a smoke-filled apparatus bay. A firefighter's helmet and gloved hand push through a narrow opening in a wooden confined-space maze. A firefighter carries a Halligan bar and an axe over their shoulder past a rescue truck. A firefighter knocks down a smoldering brush pile with a hose line in a wooded field. Close-up of the Wea Township Fire Department shoulder patch. A white fire engine parked in an open bay beside a green bay door. Red plastic junior firefighter helmets with the Wea Township shield, stacked at a community event.
